Crazy man

A man arrive to the home
He enter to his room
He keep his things in his room
He come to setting room

He switch on the Television
Increase the volume to the fullest
Neither has he never looked what program on TV
Nor has he never listen what it was saying
Instead he is busy on his phone
A social media addicted man

Why he switch on the TV?
Why he increase the sound to the fullest?
Is he mad?
Is he crazy?
Never had he thought of disturbing to other by the TV sound

He pretend as looking to TV as someone pass by setting room
He suddenly stop texting message to his friend as someone pass by.
Please don’t pretend
I know you are crazy

I know you are crazy

Minor sickness will become worse if you are far away from home.

The minor sick sadden me in other land.  I never bother for having Cough and cold sickness. What bother me is having mild fever and headache on top of cough and cold since three days ago.
I am experiencing as if my head is beaten by heavy metal and will blast at any time. It is too hot as if my head is keep on the oven. I miss my mother who always cool my head by wet cloth whenever I suffer from headache. Day by day, I am knowing the value of mother more and more. Kadrinche ama.

It is minor sickness. I kept sickness within myself. I didn’t share any of my parent and siblings. I know worrisome they will have if I share. I never want them to worry because of me. I have already given them worse worry back in 2005 because of my severe sickness.

I have persistent believe in my Root Teacher (Tsa wai lam) and Triple Gem (kenchosum). It is not I taking refuge only when I become sick. I always recite prayer before bedtime and early morning. I have already taken refuge to Root Teacher (Tsa wai lam) and Triple Gem and I will be taking here after.

I offer my prayer to my Root Teacher (tsa wai lam) and Triple Gem (ken cho sum) daily are always answered. I am safe till now because of their prayer. I thank you my parents, Root teacher and Triple Gem.

Meat Processing Unit.

It was indeed very sad to read the news in kuensel dated 18th April, 2015 ("To 'meat' a huge demands") to come up with the solution of high demand of meat with setting up the processing unit in Bhutan. Setting up of processing unit means coming up of slaughter house. I won’t comment anything mention in the news for the reason for coming up and way they will be involved in slaughtering.
“We’ll make sure animals are slaughtered in a professional way, like stunning down, making the animal unconscious,” said Dr Tashi Samdup. “We have to consider how much we’re spending on the import of meat. We are targeting to get 100 percent food self-sufficiency.”
I don’t think killing animals with professional means is different than killing taking place in other country. In bottom line, both are killing and taking the precious life.

I am against the idea of setting up Processing Unit with following opinions:

First and foremost reason come in my mind, our country is the Buddhist Country. The country in which world knows because of her religious and traditions. Gross National Happiness, GNH is the philosophy based on Buddhist principles. Happiness is the core concept in GHN. If slaughtering house is setting up in Bhutan, it is impossible to say Happiness is existing. Taking the precious life of animals cannot be justified as Happiness exist.

Second, setting up our own meat Processing unit meant easily available meat in the market. Thinking critically, supply of meat is the area that we need to look into and take action. If there is no supply, people might quit. They might eat once in a month by buying from available market. If meat is abundant in the market, naturally there will be high demands. Setting up our own Meat Processing Unit mean more and new meat consumers are going to come. If government think, importing meat cause economy deficiency, why don't they come up with Meat Importing Regulation.

Third, our people should learn the disadvantages of eating meat. People need to change their notion like not eating meat will affect the healthiness of body. Meat has nothing to do with healthiness of our body. You will know more if you watch this clips. This is the video from Jangchubshing progrom of BBS2. It is about Buddhism and Vegetarianism. Click this link. Part 1. Jangchub Shing- Buddhism & Vegetarianism, Part 1  Part 2. Jangchub Shing- Buddhism & Vegetarianism, Part 2

It is very difficult to quit meat. I know how much you enjoy the taste of meat. I was once eating meat. I am now vegetarian.
I have very simple reason for becoming vegetarian. I feel the pain and fear when somebody beat me. I sense, animals too will have same pain and fear as I do. Therefore, I don't want anyone be it animals or human being to hurt. I do believe what great Bodhisattva used to say. They say, no animals has not become our parents once in this revolving Samsara. I can’t imagine the pain and fear of my parents would have gone through just before come in front of me as meat curry.

I respect your taste bud. I respect your life. And my humble request, please let’s give happiness to our parents (animals) by minimizing the rate of eating meat and quitting one day.

Good luck for your try in minimizing the rate of eating meat and quitting one day.

I am already fallen

It was a strange occurrence,
Yet it has already happened.
Hard to believe,
Hard to explain.

You possess nothing extraordinary,
Yet you stole my lonely heart.
You didn't utter a word,
Yet your rare spoken words were enough to captivate me.

The more I think of you,
The more your gentle words resurface.
Feelings for you grow stronger,
And I contemplate confessing someday.

Don't be surprised by the intensity of my emotions,
They are genuine and true.
Emanating from the depths of my heart,
These feelings are my heart's voice.

I know, I adore you,
I also know, it's too soon to say.
I'm sorry, I can't hide the truth,
I hope you will understand.

Perhaps you may never read these words,
I don't expect you to.
I'm simply expressing my feelings,
To liberate myself.

I am finally free.

Future is now.

source:google

You are wild
With no tension of future
You enjoy every single days
You hardly think of future
It is the situation when you are in 1st year.
It is the situation when you are in 2nd year.
It is the situation when you are in 3rd year.

Future is now
You are in 4th year
On the verge of becoming engineer and what so ever
Rising tension over the mind is endless
A mind hunt over the job
A job to sustain your life
A job to help your parents

With no available job in the market
A frustration arise:
4 years for struggling the battle of every tests.
An Assignments, Presentations, practical, practical report, mini-project and major-project.
Tight schedule for 4 year
And a reward with nothing

But you can still survive
Little skill you have:
Skill of technologies and together with life skill
And your determination and enthusiasm
You can sustain your life.

You are never born to become engineer
You are only studying engineering
After all the circumstance determine your carriers
Never going to regret for your decision.
Decide now and prepare now.

Thank you INTERWEAVE

  source Interweave facebook page

The ten months exchange program is an opportunity. The project under Interweave program which offers students an exchange program from Asia to Europe and vice versa. I am the one who benefit the program from Asia to Europe. My program will end in the end of June, 2015. Nearly 3 months to go to wind up my program.

I must say INTERWEAVE program is my life time opportunity. Exploring the globe and interacting with different people is something which I would not have an opportunity if Interweave program was not there.

Travelling to Europe itself is an adventure and experience for me. A country boy travelling Europe, a far destination will meant huge to him. I got to travel Spain under Interweave program. Exploring and experiencing the different lifestyle from my home (Bhutan) in Spain is my memories which is hard to forget in future. I learnt a lot. I will take along with me to my country, Bhutan.

Everything I experienced the new environment would impossible without an Interweave program. For making my life different, I say Thank you Interweave Program for the golden opportunity. My thankfulness to Interweave program and team members of Interweave (Erasmus Mundus) would be always within my heart and soul. Thank you INTERWEAVE.

Declining Believe, Trust and Love.

I shall trust thy trust.
Thou should have trust my trust.
I shall honor thy trust and love.
Thou should have honor my trust and love.
The made Trust and Love is fading away.

Unpredictable is the weather.
And thou is also no exception.
Trust and love dwindling every time at very far.
With the presentation of unpredictable action by thou.
I can't appreciate thou action anymore.

Thou words with hiccup in between.
Thou words with ego in between.
Thou words with pride in between.
Thou words with absurdity in between.
Believe in thou go hither and thither.
Believe in thou is fading away.

Believe, Trust and love are meant with situation.
The constant Believe, Trust and Love is nowhere in my world.
The constant Believe, Trust and Love is nowhere in your world.
My world and your world is solely comprise of different Believe, Trust and love.

Once in a blue moon, the Glimpse of Barca (Barcelona) match.

I had a dream of watching Messi, the world four time best footballer winner playing football. The 27th match of Liga BBVA, (Spanish division A leage), FCBarcelona had to play with SD Eibar FC (Football Club) home. SD Eibar FC is near my university. It is 45 minutes by bus to reach there. I tried to book ticket online many time. I was failed all the time. My dream of watching Leo Messi playing football was about to shattered. Fortunately, my friend Irune who is from Eibar could brought tickets for me and Ramon. Thank you Irune for everything. Thank you Ramon for the information about ticket. I got ticket on Friday, 13th March 2015. “Messi, I am coming to watch your play this Saturday” was the status I updated in my facebook account.

The match was to play at 1800 hours (+1 GMT) 14th March 2015. We had a plan to go Eibar at 1230 hours so that we can visit Eibar city and witnessed every events of match. Irune served us lunch. Thank you Irune for your kind hospitably.

We waited for the arrival of FCB bus. They arrived Ipurua stadium of Eibar FC at 1630 hours. We entered Ipurua stadium at 1700 hours. Wow, both teams member were warming up. Among them were the Messi, Neymar and Suarez. I was on the top of the world as I saw them.

The different feeling which I can’t express in words as I was clicking Messi and recording short video clips of him. Barca played very well with 2 goal by Messi. I record video of both goal by Messi. I won’t narrate about match. Below are the photos I captured during the match and few short videos.

Tashi Delek and My warm wishes to National team (football) for second Leg.

Team Bhutan. source:Bhutan National Football Team (Facebook page)
In the month of February, from the news report (BBS and Kuensel) I read, Bhutan will participate in world cup preliminary qualifying match. I was excite to watch the match. Few days after that news, drawn fixture with Bhutan versus Sri Lanka was published. I was more excite after the fixture. Counting the days, finally the match day come. It was on 12th March, 2015, Bhutan played in Colombo against Sri Lanka. I had class till 9:45am (Spain, +5 GMT) and match was due to play at 10:30 am (3:00 pm local time of Sri Lanka). I settled down to watched. The game started and I felt chill within my mind. I pray for the success to Team Bhutan. A half time bought with Nil for both Team. I was happy, Team Bhutan dominate Sri Lanka in the first half.

And second half started with more possession of ball for Sri Lanka. Any way, scoring is more important than having more possession of ball. Team Bhutan defense quit brilliantly. At, last 10 minutes (84 minutes), jersey number 16, Midfielder so called Tshering Dorji, 20 year boy found the space and kick ball inside the net. A goal for Bhutan. Beside Tshering Dorji, credit goes to jersey number 7, Checho Gyeltshen for his brilliant assist and play. And of course all the boys (player).

Now, second Leg will be play in Bhutan, national stradium Changlimithang. I wish Team Bhutan to continue with the same spirit. I wish good luck to Team Bhutan. History was already made in Colombo, Sri Lanka by wining first ever world qualifying match. Wining in home would bring more smile to Bhutanese and add one more chapter to already made history.

Villagers with mobile is more fun.

You will understand what I refer to funny if you read it. I say villagers with mobile is fun not because they can’t operate mobile as they are illiterate. Funnier will find in the following lines.
My village was recently connect with mobile service. All villagers own simple mobile (black and white) and few with mobile having advance facilities. They own mobile thinking they can communicate with their relatives in other places of the country. To my surprises, few villagers were victimized by student by calling to their number.

Students take advantages of villagers as they don’t know who is calling and how to save the received number that threaten them to track. In one instance, villager was called by student. Student made as a BBS host. He asked villager to sing a song as that program is live calling and singing show. The villager sang seriously but on the other side of one making fun was having uncontrollable laugh.

Again another funny incident to caller (student) but serious incident to call receiver (villager). I say it was a tragic fun. Student called villager by making as their daughter (pitch of voice changed similar to their daughter). In the conversation, the student told she was pregnant. Parent were worried. They couldn’t recognized that voice. They considered it was true. Only after few week, they know it was somebody making artificial voice of their daughter.

I will stop with above two incidents of my villagers making fun by children of my village. There are many stories regarding phone call. What you think of that tragic fun? Is same incident happened in your village? I think children are wrong to do that. After all they are all our parents.

The ultimate goal of one’s life.

Are you happy?

We dream of having a happy life. A happiest within one’s mind and around the environment. The trend of human being dreaming of having luxurious things can’t avoid. You have the right to dream that dreams. Dreaming to have luxurious life may result to disastrous life if one can’t change the dream in to reality.

Whether you achieve dream of luxurious life or you couldn’t achieve but if you think you are happy within your mind that is what deem to be the way of life. The environment happiest will achieve with your actions. Finest action you adopt in the society, good reaction from friends. More you act differently, more you will upset with the action of friends. The core meaning of environment happiest is holding one’s negative emotions.

We have no right to interfere other life. You may feel he is not doing what you are doing. Remember, every individual has their own way of doing in search of their happiest. If he don’t follow what you are doing, it mean he don’t like what you are doing. You may not like to do what he is doing. So, it’s our six sense to understand other’s interest and way of their life.

Reflecting on my own life. I am poor fellow possess nothing. I also want to tell you, I am happy always. I am satisfy with my human life. My only dream and hope ahead of my life is to avoid any non-virtuous deed for the well-being of sentient beings and to liberate form the ocean of anguish. Above all, my one and only desire in my life ahead is to render my love and care to my thanking parents.

Thank you for reading my thoughts of “The ultimate goal of one’s life”.

2005 may not return but still clinging over my mind.

From nowhere, I was taking back to the circumstance of 2005 frequently. Counting the years, it is running 10 years. The strongest emotion of 2005 which gave me to experienced is my nightmare. The circumstances of 2005 and the misfortune in my life of 2005 is my light to the way of doing my actions.
2005 circumstance may not return but still clinging over my heart and soul. The year was difficult year for my life. It was the year that I couldn’t predict to live next year. There was no hope to live my life but to depart my body from my soul. I lose my appetite. I can’t walk anymore, walking 5 steps was as if like I climbing the mountain. My weight is decreasing every day and my face becoming dark. Every one visiting me insist, “Aii (expressing sympathy in my dialect), what has happen to you, you are young and admitting to hospital, you will be cured”. They console my already shuttered heart but I understand in other way, they are also with no hope to live my life like me.

The course of my hope get altered as soon I was diagnose with appropriate sickness. It was Mycobacterium tuberculosis which caused the disorder of my body and diagnosed as Tuberculosis (TB) in Jigme Dorji Wangchuk National referral hospital (JDWNRH), Thimphu, Bhutan. When I heard you are diagnosed as TB, I couldn’t hold the tear from my eyes. The tear was rolling over my face. That was the tear of sadness. Thank god, TB is curable diseases.
The treatment of DOTS (Directly Observed Treatment, short-course) started for me. My life with DOTS; I stayed 2 months in Gedakom Hospital, Thimphu and was discharge. DOTS started with injection which last two months in Gedakom. I was bringing back to the ray of hope of my life. A day by day, I was getting better and better, stronger and stronger and happier and happier.
I continued my DOTS for next 6 months in home and school.

I realized that the god almighty blessed me. I also realized correct treatment is going to cured one’s sickness. I say correct treatment because I was admitted in Samdrup Jongkhar Regional Hospital for more than 2 months. My sickness symptom clearly indicate TB symptoms. They failed to diagnose the TB but they gave treatment saying I got lungs problem. With that treatment instead of curing, the case is becoming even worse than before. My father and I asked doctor to let me go Deowathang Hospital and even JDWNRH for further treatment. They said that you will be cured soon and I was discharged home without any cure. I believed them and went home. The sickness become worsen and worsen. I went JDWNRH for further treatment. Within three days they diagnosed my sickness. So, I request all of you to go further treatment if you are not cure in admitted hospital when doctors in that hospital say you don’t need to go. Some doctor never ask us to go for further treatment. There may be case, where patient die because of wrong treatment. I was lucky, I wasn’t dead with wrong treatment.

My heartfelt thankfulness for their generous help during my sickness and treatment.

First and foremost thing come in my mind is my only apa (father), ama (mother), ana and ausa (sisters) and kota (brother). It was my apa and ama who reach me to hospital and take care in the hospital. I am sure it’s impossible to repay to one’s parent but I vow, I will render my love and care to parents. I thank to all my siblings for sharing the sorrow and helping me. My apa suffer more than what I suffer. Carry on his back from Arunachal Pradesh India to my village. Thank you very much my dear apa. Ama, you were one who listen my words during my sickness. I pray long life to all my parents.

Thank you ata Sherab and ata Loday for carry me on your back till road point. I really need to repay for your support. I will never forget in my life. And ata Sangay Jamtsho for your support. I thank all the relatives who support me. I thank my late grandmother for her support. Om Ma Ni Pad Mi Hug. May you rebirth in palace of Dewachen. My prayer is always with you, grandma.
In Thimphu, I stay with my step mother (Azim) and late Aku. Thank you Azim and late Aku for your generous help. I will never forget your support.

My thankfulness will go on if I write. I don’t remember all names to mention. The thought within my heart about thanking all the people who support me during my sickness will never vanish.
Thank you all. I pray long life to all.

Kuzuzangpo, I would like to thank the trainess and the faculty of the RIM and the Honourable guests. I am very happy to be a part of this talk show called “Buddhism and Vegetarianism” which has so much relevance with Buddhism. Generally in Buddhism, there are vast and profound teachings regarding the consumption of meat: yet, I cannot claim to have the authority or the knowledge to teach. However, I will share with you the little that I know from my experience with you within the short duration of this talk. The primary reason behind not eating meat as taught by Lord Buddha is that being a Buddhist, our belief is rooted in the “Law of KARMA (action and fruition)”, the ‘action’ is as taught by Lord Buddha “All Dharma arises out of action”. Thus, we as Buddhist should believe in action as taught by the Buddha, which consists of two –virtuous and non-virtuous; and Buddha also clearly taught in detail about the results of both virtuous and non-virtuous action. From limited understanding, generally all sentient beings once born with a body need food to sustain that body, as the Lord Buddha said “all sentient beings are sustained by food”. This is shared and accepted by science as well. Now, food itself, in ancient times is divided into 4 different types according to the Buddha Dharma. Which can be condensed into two- solid and soft. Aeons ago, human beings did not have to rely on solid food for sustenance, but rather they relied on the food/nourishment of Samadhi which in turn gave their bodies a natural glow and lightness; they lived a long life as well. All these qualities were the result of the different kind of pure nourishment.
Later on, as time passed, and as people’s mental afflictions such as attachment, anger, ignorance grew, the ability to sustain their bodies with pure Nourishment diminished; hence they were compelled to consume solid food to sustain and nourish themselves. As they continued to consume solid food, their natural glow started disappearing, they started getting heavier, and their life span as well became shorter. Now, meat falls within the classification of solid nourishment. Solid nourishment itself is also sub-divided into two, which are pure and impure. Meat falls within the impure subdivision as taught by Buddha. The reason for meat being impure is due to the fact that meat is a product of having killed a living being. It is obvious to all of us that all animals also cherish their lives as much as we do, the fact that they hide, run away and cry in pain are obvious signs that their lives are dear and precious to them. As life is precious and clear to all beings, the act of taking life is thus taught to be the most non-virtuous deed by the Buddha, in the teaching of Karma, “there is no other higher non-virtuous deed than, the act of taking life from the ten non-virtuous actions, the act of killing is the most non-virtuous action”. As a result of the act of killing, in this lifetime not only the space of where the act is committed, but even the acquaintances of the person who commits the act are effected. In future lives, all who have commits and are associated with the act are born in the lower realms, and have to bear the suffering there for aeons. Even if one is freed and reborn as human, as a direct consequence of having taken another’s life, one will encounter many life-threatening obstacles. The Buddha taught in detail, that the act of killing gives rise to 4 distinct fruitions/results in the Buddha Dharma. Abstaining from eating meat is one of the many skillful means that the Buddha taught; as the act of killing is considered to be one of the gravest of all non-virtuous deeds and the source of suffering in this life and all future lives.
From another point of view, depending on the mind and time factor of the followers the Buddha taught many different faults on eating meat, so that one will abstain from the act of killing. Again, from another perspective, as we are also habituated to consuming meat that took over a period of time, it is difficult to abstain from that habit at once. To break this habit, in the teachings of Buddha, he taught how to free oneself from the desire of eating meat by looking at 3 point; 1. By looking at the source, 2. By looking at the nature and 3. By looking at the result. First, to elaborate on what we mean by contemplating on the source, is that for example if we look at the source of being human, and also if we take example of a cow, how are its flesh and bones formed? When we deeply contemplate on this, the teachings of the Buddha teaches that our body is divided into two, flesh and bones. And the main source of the flesh and bones are the father’s semen and the mother’s eggs. From the father’s semen the bones is formed and the mother’s eggs the flesh is formed, therefore it is considered impure. Thus, one should deeply contemplate whether the impure product coming from an impure source is fit for consumption? What I just shared with you is the method of abstaining from meat consumption through the contemplation of the source of the meat.
Second, to contemplate on the nature of meat if one were to set a piece of meat, vegetable and fruit together. The fruit and vegetable is pleasant to look at, smells fresh and when consumed delicious; unlike the piece of meat, which is a lump of flesh covered in blood and unpleasant to look at, foul smelling and should one eat it unusual and distasteful. So, one should deeply contemplate how the nature of meat is different from other products, and thus, this is the way of abstaining from meat consumption by contemplating the nature/reality of the meat.
The third method of contemplating the result, after the consumption of the meat the result is that it obscures our mind, organs and awareness. For example if an intelligent person consumes meat for a long period of time, this person will naturally lose his intelligence and other abilities. On the contrary, a person who does not consume meat will be active and fresh; for example a Dharma practitioner who was otherwise eager to practice, will after the consumption of meat naturally become sleepy, drowsy and will also lose interest in virtuous deeds; as well as, other activities as a whole. The other ill-effects of eating meat is that it makes one susceptible to more disease. Thus, by contemplating the pros and cons of what I have shared, one should be able to see the benefits of not consuming meat and the ill-effects of consuming meat. So, these are the ways that the Buddha shared as skillful means to abstain from meat consumption by looking at the cause, nature and the results of consuming meat.
Further, in some other teachings of the Buddha, he has taught us that all sentient beings including oneself are all born as parents. Now, the reason is because we are born in samsara not just in this lifetime, but we have been born many times before in this samsara. During those lives, we must have been born as either a human or an animal, and similar to this life we must have been born to parents, and if one were to contemplate all past lives with their parents, then the number of lives and number of parents is innumerable, thus by using this logic we can come to the understanding that all sentient beings have been our parents at one point with no exceptions. If one were put in a situation where you had to consume the flesh of your present parents; would you be able to? Similarly, all animals have been our parents who have given us birth, love and support. Thus, they all are our benevolent parents, the reason we are not able to recognize them is due to the length of time and the obscuration that has grown over innumerable lifetimes. Hence, the Buddha says that one should ask oneself, is the flesh of one’s past parents’ consumable or not? Can one eat it or not? This is yet another skillful means taught by the Buddha to abstain from consuming meat. As all of you must already be familiar with this story, during the time of the Buddha there were 8 exceptional disciples, one of them was the Arahat Katayana, who was the Buddha’s representative for the rural areas. He used to teach and tame the inhabitants there, one day while on his alms round, he saw a women holding a baby in her arms, and eating a fish curry, with a dog beside her. He saw the dog trying to eat the fish bones discarded by the women, but the women was beating the dog when it attempted to eat the fishbone. Katayana saw through his power of clairvoyance, that the dog was the women’s mother reborn, the fish that she was eating was her father reborn and her baby was her arch-enemy in her past life. Thus she was holding her enemy in her arms, and eating father’s meat while beating her mother. In the case of the dog and fish, the wife was eating her husband. Similar to the example just shared, we have no means of knowing what form our loved ones who have passed away have been reborn as, and it is highly likely that should they be born as a fish that it would be an unimaginable non-virtuous act to consume their flesh. Thus, by contemplating on these examples and logic one should refrain from consuming meat.
Likewise, the bodies of all sentient being consist of the 5 aggregates, the Buddha said that the bodies of animals such as fish, pig e.t.c also consist of 5 aggregates. The true nature of the 5 aggregates are the 5 Dhayani Buddhas. Thus, the act of killing animals or the act of harming an animal is like killing or harming the body of Buddha Vairocana, and one also accumulates the negative karma of such a heinous act. In the process of taking life, one has to destroy all the 5 aggregates of which the form aggregate is Buddha Vairocana, the perception aggregate is Buddha Ratnasambhava, etc. in short the 5 Dhayani Buddhas, astaught in the Vajrayana teachings. Taking these truths into consideration, when one performs the act of killing, one accumulates the negative karma of killing the 5 Dhayani Buddhas; thus, one should refrain from the act of killing and consuming meat. Likewise the Buddha said that all sentient beings without exception have the Buddha essence, Thathagata Garba. Since we all have the potential of being a Buddha, killing a sentient being is destroying the seed of liberation; thus, one should refrain from the act of killing. What I have just shared with you is from an advanced belief within the Buddha’s teaching; and what I shared with you earlier about the source, the nature and the result is from mundane perspective. Though the teachings are varied in its profound exposition, the core essence of these teachings is to refrain oneself from the act of killing and the faults that lie with the act of killing and consuming meat.
As we are all aware, being vegetarian from scientific point of view not only extends one’s life, but you enjoy a healthier life as well. Even from a Dharmice point of view, sustaining oneself on a vegetarian diet which is considered as a pure diet further increases one’s life span, due to the power and benefit of virtue; moreover being vegetarian improves one’s personal, and environmental hygiene. If one consumes the impure diet, than as a result of this one will be susceptible to diseases, and a short life. If possible one, should try to refrain from eating meat for the full duration of one’s life, if not try for a few months. Bhutan being a Buddhist country and living up to its name, the Government and the people unanimously adopted a law that bans the sale of meat products for 2 months out of a year in the kingdom. During that time, not consuming meat for 2 months has immense benefits. If one is not able to stop for months, than one should try to be vegetarian during the auspicious days (8, 10, 15, 25, and 30) of the month. Even being a vegetarian for a day during those auspicious days has immense benefits. Not only refraining oneself but also advising and supporting others to not consume meat has equal and immense benefit. What I have shared with you is abridges version of what I have learned. The reason for sharing with you just an abridged version, is firstly I do not claim to have the knowledge and secondly nor does time permit to go in depth. The Buddha said that, it is not compulsory to refrain from eating meat for a lifetime nor for a whole year for beginners, but to start by refraining for a day. In a day we usually have 3 meals, and out of those 3 meals try eating one meal without meat, and even 1 meatless meal has lot of benefits. Otherwise, out of 3 meals, abstain from meat consumption for 2 meals. These are all skillful methods of making the act of not consuming meat a habit. So, as beginners one should follow a gradual path to being a vegetarian and avoid extremes. We being born as Buddhist, accept the law of Karma, and eating meat goes against this law of action and fruition. Thus, I request everyone to abstain from consuming meat, by being mindful of what I have shared with you.
I would like to specifically clarify that while the Buddha Dharma teaches that one should not consume meat, yet some lamas, accomplished master and in the teaching of Vajrayana the use of meat is mandatory. When the Vajrayana teachings say that meat is mandatory, it does not imply that an animal needs to be slaughtered; in fact, the meat used should be of an animal that has died a natural death, and that too, the meat requirement is very less and used for Ganachakra and other offerings. Even the person who is performing or handling the ceremonies that requires meat, should be an accomplished master and not somebody ordinary like us. I would further like to request and offer some heartfelt advice to you all that one should not feel and think that just by abstaining from eating meat, you can indulge in other non-virtuous and harmful deeds. Just as meat consumption is a non-virtuous act, similarly one should avoid other impure products such as drugs, alcohol and tobacco. Even if one abstains from meat consumption, if one indulges in alcohol, tobacco and drugs than as a local saying goes, it would be like mixing medicine with poison. By refraining oneself from impure products like drugs, alcohol and tobacco one can accumulate vast merit. Buddha said sue to the power of the merit that one has accumulated from the abstinence of impure products one will be able to fulfill all their wishes. The use of impure products bring forth obstacles in life and obstructs the successful completion of one’s efforts. Merit and virtuous action are synonymous. Thus, contemplating on this life and future lives it is practical that one should refrain from non-virtuous action and adopt virtuous action. And, without the 10 non-virtuous action the act of killing is considered as the primary non-virtuous act, the Buddha Dharma teaches that when one refrains from the primary non-virtuous act, it is easier to refrain and abandon the other 9 non-virtuous actions. When one refrains from act of killing, one naturally becomes a vegetarian.

In conclusion, I hope and pray that as a result of this talk show that all the people assembled here, will at least practice refraining from impure products for at least a day if not a lifetime; and find sustenance with pure products. Moreover, I sincerely hope that you can practice all that I have shared with you, and will provide advice and support to others as well. Today, as much as I would have liked to explain the teachings in detail, as I do not possess the knowledge and exposure I was not able to do so; and, should my words be incorrect and incomplete, more importantly, if I have offended any of your sensibilities then I offer my sincere apology. I hope that you will accept my apology, thank you, Kadinchey.
